Last week, the @fda issued a letter to infant formula companies & manufacturers, requesting them to follow policies & protocols for food safety and to let them know if any contamination becomes known. As @heleenabena with Food Fix, @billmarler with @food_safety_news , and @stopfoodborneillness have all stated & reported… this is simply NOT enough. The FDA cannot truly make this request into a ‘law’, that would need to be done in Congress. And this request is really only covering the bare minimum that should be expected of infant formula companies. The other point of concern that has been mentioned… it’s almost like deja vu. In 2005-2006, manufacturers of spinach received a similar letter.. as the result of an E.Coli breakout. Yet, in 2022, we came to learn that @fda is so disconnected, there really isn’t even any 1 person in charge of Foods… @billmarler has started a campaign to “Get the F out of the FDA”. This suggests ‘Foods’ to be in their own sector. A long overdue change in reality. But whatever changes come about, we must make sure they happen. We must demand accountability and improvement in the future. I don’t know what the solution to this whole problem is. It’s deep. But I do know, that NO change is NOT an option. @fda @usdagov @hhsgov @cdcgov @potus @joebiden we deserve better. We deserve safety. We deserve accountability. We are talking about FOOD here… Links: FDA Letter: https://www.fda.gov/media/166044/download
