Fish

Just as we saw with Peanuts and Tree Nuts, Fish and Shellfish differ slightly in their causes for allergic reaction. Because fish and shellfish are different animals. Due to this, they are classified as different allergens.

Fish encompasses just that.

Finned Fish. Anything that does not have some type of shell or "weird" attribute and does have fins, is considered a fish.

Quick & Easy Ways To Expose:

  • Serve baked Finned Fish

  • Serve canned Finned Fish (packed in water!) - Serve plain, mix with Avocado, Guacamole, Tartar Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Veggies, Sweet Potato - you name it!

    • My son loves Canned/Packaged Tuna & extra plus if mixed with those first 3 ideas!

  • Add Finned Fish in place of chicken or beef in a recipe

  • Add Finned Fish to a pasta dish- Tuna Mac!

  • Offer Fish Sticks instead of Chicken Nuggets

Random Facts & Tips!

  • While this remains as one of the most common food allergens overall, it may "develop" over time. Many adults who are diagnosed with a finned fish allergy report they did not have this reaction as a child. In fact, ~40% of those with Fish Allergy, experience their first reactions in adulthood.

  • More than half of those who are allergic to 1 type of Finned Fish, are also allergic to other types of Finned Fish

  • There are over 20,000 different species of Finned Fish
